Dr. Joanna Kam grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where she trained as a classical pianist with the Royal Conservatory of Music. After earning an Associate Diploma of the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano performance, she attended the University of British Columbia, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology & Immunology. She received a full-tuition scholarship to attend medical school at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. During medical school she was one of a handful of students nominated to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. 

 

She then completed a competitive 5-year residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI. She was awarded the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery's Leslie Bernstein Resident Research Grant for her research on keloid scars. In addition to winning multiple institutional research awards, she earned a resident leadership grant from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. After residency, she was selected by Drs. Daniel Becker, Jason Bloom, and Oren Friedman to be a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. 

 

After the completion of her Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship, Dr. Kam joined Drs. Sheehan and Chen, where she focuses on aesthetic facial plastic surgery and post-skin cancer reconstruction.  Dr. Kam strives to provide exceptional and personalized patient care, focusing on each patient’s needs to deliver natural and youthful facial harmony. 

 

Dr. Kam has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal publications and has presented her work at medical conferences across the country. Outside of her passion for patient care and research, Dr. Kam enjoys spending time with her husband Robert, hiking, baking, and playing the piano. She enjoys the outdoors in the Augusta, GA area.
